Mark Knowles Bio

Mark Knowles is an experienced training and development professional with over thirty years’ experience in delivering quality TVET for learners and employers alike and in contributing to TVET systems on behalf of industry.

Through frontline and strategic roles in industry training, Mark has developed and showcased his expertise by designing, developing and implementing training and development programs that focus on safety, quality and productivity. In his ten years as Training Superintendent for Rio Tinto Iron Ore Australia, Mark demonstrated that not only does he understand how to maximise the effectiveness of an organisation’s training spend, but also understands the complexities of using and engaging with a national TVET system, the needs and expectations of employers in working with such systems and the important role that employers can play in the development of these national systems.

Mark has particular skills and experience in:

  • Training and assessment design, delivery and implementation
  • Fitting and Machining trades and the Mining industry
  • The management of apprenticeships
  • The professional development of trainers and assessors
  • Processes supporting the development and maintenance of industry competency standards and training products

Mark has served as the Chair of the Metalliferous Mining Industry Reference Committee in Australia’s national training system, and as a Member for the Minerals Council of Australia’s Workforce Development Committee.  He holds multiple Diplomas in Teaching, Training and Assessment, Business and Engineering, is a qualified Fitter and Machinist and a qualified trainer and assessor in Australia’s national training system.
