Gavin Lind Bio

Gavin Lind-Sustainable Skills Board Director

Gavin Lind has over 20 years’ experience in the Resource Industry with a focus on health and safety, higher education and skills development. He has held various professional roles in industry, academia and government in both South Africa and Australia.

Since June 2010, Gavin Lind has served the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA), the peak industry body representing most of Australia’s explorers, miners and processors, nationally and internationally, in their contribution to sustainable development and society.

At MCA Gavin currently holds three different roles. He works as the Director Workforce Skills, Health and Safety, looking after the workforce skills, health and safety interest of over 80 corporate members ranging from multinational corporations to regional explorers. As the Executive Director of the Minerals Tertiary Education Council (MTEC), he is in charge for the development of policy and advocacy on higher education, vocational education and training, skills and workforce planning, professional development and research and innovation on behalf of the Australian minerals industry. As the Executive Director of the MCA Victorian Division, Gavin looks after the interests from a state development and regulatory perspective of over 20 corporate members (including power generators, miners and explorers).

Starting his career in South Africa as a Mining Engineer in Training Services, Gavin has held various professional roles in industry, academia and government in both South Africa and Australia.

In 2013, he was awarded the LH Martin Award for Excellence in Leadership in Higher Education for his work in promoting minerals education at multiple governmental, institutional, and corporate levels.

Gavin holds A Ph.D in Mining Engineering at University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and a Certificate IV in Life Coaching. His work resulted in twenty eight peer-reviewed publications and in multiple invited plenary, session and panel speaker engagements nationally and internationally.

Gavin speaks English and Afrikaans and is a semi-professional stand-up comedian in his spare time.
